HEALTH & SAFETY

Safe sites. Every stage.

243SITE Construction Services Limited is committed to carrying out construction cleaning, site support and HANDOVER READY services in a way that protects workers, clients, other contractors, visitors and members of the public from work-related harm, so far as is reasonably practicable.

Health and safety is part of planning, scoping, mobilisation, delivery, quality control and project close-out – not a separate activity.

Construction sites are changing workplaces where multiple businesses may influence the same risks. We plan for that on every project.

OUR PRINCIPLES

How we work safely.

  1. IDENTIFY AND CONTROL

Identify hazards and work risks before and during work. Eliminate risks where reasonably practicable; otherwise minimise them so far as reasonably practicable.

  2. COORDINATE

Consult, cooperate and coordinate with clients, head contractors and other PCBUs where health and safety duties overlap.

  3. INFORM AND EQUIP

Provide workers with information, instruction, training, supervision and equipment appropriate to their work.

  4. FOLLOW SITE RULES

Site inductions, applicable project rules and agreed controls are followed on every site.

  5. PPE AND CHEMICALS

Maintain appropriate PPE, equipment inspection, chemical management and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) controls.

  6. SPEAK UP

Workers are encouraged to raise hazards, near misses and safety concerns without fear of disadvantage.

  7. STOP WHEN UNSAFE

Stop or pause work where conditions are unsafe or required controls are not in place.

  8. REPORT AND LEARN

Report, investigate and learn from incidents and near misses, including notifying WorkSafe when a notifiable event occurs.

  9. REVIEW

Review our systems as the business, workforce and project risks change.

WORKING WITH PROJECT TEAMS

Shared sites. Clear duties.

243SITE often works in shared construction workplaces. We communicate with the relevant project team about site hazards, access, sequencing, emergency arrangements, interfaces with other trades and the controls needed for our work.

We do not treat a head contractor’s site system as a replacement for our own duties, and we do not seek to transfer our legal duties to another party.

KEY OPERATIONAL CONTROLS

What we do on site.

The controls that apply to every 243SITE scope, whatever the stage of the project.

SITE ACCESS & INDUCTIONS
Workers complete required inductions, understand emergency arrangements and follow authorised access routes.
CHEMICALS
Approved products are inventoried; current SDS information is available; workers are instructed on safe use, storage, PPE and spill response.
EQUIPMENT
Equipment is selected for the task, inspected, maintained and used only by workers who are competent or appropriately supervised.
DUST & CONTAMINANTS
Work methods are selected to reduce exposure and spread. Suspected asbestos, hazardous or unidentified contamination is not disturbed and is escalated.
WORK AT HEIGHT
Work is planned to avoid height where practicable. Specialist access or higher-risk work requires appropriate assessment, equipment and competent persons.
MANUAL HANDLING
Loads, repetitive work and awkward handling are assessed and controlled through planning, team lifting, equipment and work methods.
OTHER TRADES & MOBILE PLANT
Workers remain alert to changing site conditions, exclusion zones, vehicles, plant and simultaneous operations.
INCIDENTS & NEAR MISSES
Events and hazards are reported promptly, made safe where possible, recorded and reviewed for corrective action.

For project-specific health and safety information, clients and principal contractors can contact 243SITE.

Every worker has authority to stop and seek guidance.

No worker is expected to continue a task they reasonably believe presents an uncontrolled risk of serious harm, is outside their competence, or conflicts with site safety requirements. Work resumes only when the concern has been assessed and appropriate controls are in place.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Who is responsible for what.

Workers are expected and encouraged to participate in health and safety – directly with a supervisor or director, during inductions, pre-starts and toolbox discussions, or at any time a risk is identified. Relevant worker views are considered when decisions may affect their health and safety.

  1. DIRECTORS & MANAGERS

    Provide leadership, resources and oversight.

  2. SUPERVISORS

Plan the work, communicate the controls and check they are implemented.

  3. WORKERS

Take reasonable care, follow reasonable instructions and procedures, use controls correctly, and report hazards, incidents and changes in conditions.

POLICY

Review and approval.
